Amāvásyā (Sanskrit: अमावस्या) or Amavas stands for New Moon Lunar phase as per the Sanskrit Language. The word Amāvásyā is very prominent amongst Nepalese and Indians as it has been derived from Language Sanskrit. On Amavas or Amavasya the moon remains dark, on the Moon Tithi the Moon remains at the center within 12 degrees between the Sun and Moon. The New Moon Tithi or Pratipada or Prathama, Amāvásyā is usually interpreted as the Tithi of new the moon.

How to do Amavasya Pooja at home or remedies for ancestors or Worshiping of Forefathers
The Amavasya comes every month and is believed to be an auspicious day for the worship of forefathers or Pitras. On this day, most of the Religious people do not travel for work and they just concentrate rites and rituals for Amavasya significance. Despite we are living in the 21st Century, people like masons avoid working on Amavasya day and they worship on Amavasya. In fact, during the 18th century in India, the elite class High Court Judges would perceive Amavasya as a day off.
What to Do and What Not to Do on Amavasya
On this day, Amavasyas, the Shraadh in honor of the forefathers is done, whose fathers have passed away. This is done to honor the departed souls of the father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In case, any of them is still alive then their names are skipped. A final and untitled oblation is given in honor of unidentified souls.
The duration of the dark fortnight of Aswayuja is celebrated as Shraddh or Pitru Paksha, it is believed to be the best of the period and sacred for offering oblations to departed ancestors. The last day of this period, or the black moon day or is called Mahalaya Amavasya, it is believed that owing to the grace of Yamraj.
